At Glasgow Roofmasters we love staying close to the people we work for, and the easiest way we do that is through our social media pages. If you ever wonder what we’re up to day to day, how a job looks before and after, or just fancy a quick tip about keeping your roof happy, you’ll find us on Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn and YouTube. We’re the same friendly Glasgow team online as we are when we turn up at your door in the van, and thousands of local folk now follow us because they like seeing honest pictures, short videos and simple advice instead of polished adverts. We post almost every day, and we answer messages quickly, so if you have a question about a leaky gutter or a wobbly tile, just drop us a line on any of the pages and one of us will get back to you the same day.
Our
Facebook page is the busiest. It’s like the noticeboard in our workshop, but bigger. We put up albums of every job we finish – before, during and after photos so you can see exactly what we did. You’ll spot new slate roofs in Pollokshields, bright orange clay tiles going back on houses in Bearsden, lead valleys being welded on tenements in Hyndland, and flat roofs getting fresh felt in Govan. People love leaving comments like “that’s my mum’s house!” or “never knew leadwork could look so neat”. We run a quick poll every week – things like “red tiles or grey this year?” or “worst storm damage you’ve seen?” – and we give away a free roof check now and then to someone who joins in. We also share short Reels showing the lads up on the roof in the rain still smiling, or time-lapse videos of a whole day’s work in thirty seconds. If you’re local and you like us on Facebook, you’ll feel part of the team.
Instagram is where we show off the pretty side of roofing. We post big clear photos and short videos and Stories every single day. You’ll see close-ups of freshly bossed lead that shines like silver, rows of brand-new ridge tiles against a blue Glasgow sky, or frost on a roof first thing in the morning. We use simple hashtags like #GlasgowRoofs #RoofingDoneRight #GlasgowTrades so local people can find us easily. The Stories are great for quick updates – sometimes it’s “on our way to an emergency leak in Partick – watch this space”, then an hour later we post the fixed roof and the customer giving us a thumbs-up. Lots of younger customers and new homeowners follow us here, and they often message saying “I’ve just bought a flat in Shawlands, can you come and have a look?” We answer every single one.
Over on
X (still Twitter to most of us) we’re a bit more chatty and quick. We post about the weather when a big storm is coming – “winds picking up tonight, if anything moves on your roof give us a call” – and we share fast tips like “see daylight through your loft? That’s not good, let’s fix it”. We retweet customers who tag us in their own photos, and we keep an eye on local news so if there’s damage in Cardonald or Hillhead we can let people know we’re already in the area. It’s also the place where we jump in fast if someone posts “anyone know a decent roofer in Glasgow?” – we reply in minutes and usually end up booking the job.
Pinterest is our quiet corner for ideas. We have boards full of different roof styles you see around Glasgow – red sandstone tenements, blonde sandstone villas, modern grey slates, traditional slate, clay pantiles, even green roofs on new eco houses. Homeowners who are planning an extension or a renovation save our pins because the pictures are real jobs we’ve done, not catalogue shots. We pin colour charts for tiles and slates, examples of nice lead detailing round dormers, and simple guides like “five signs your chimney flashing needs replaced”. It’s handy for architects and builders too – they often send us a message saying “we saw your bay window detail on Pinterest, can you price something similar?”
LinkedIn is where we talk to other businesses, landlords, property managers, housing associations and surveyors. We post case studies – “250 m² of new lead flat roof for a Glasgow school, finished on time and on budget” – with proper photos and a short write-up. We share articles about new building rules or better ways to stop condensation in older buildings. Lots of facilities managers follow us because they know if they have ten properties across the city and one starts leaking on a Friday night, we’ll sort it without fuss. We’ve picked up some of our biggest regular contracts just from people seeing our work on LinkedIn and getting in touch.
YouTube is our newest page and already the one that surprises people most. We started it because customers kept asking “how do you actually do that?” We now have short two- or three-minute videos showing exactly how we weld lead valleys, how we strip and re-slate a roof without damaging the inside of the house, how we fit new dry verge systems so birds can’t get in, and how we repair a flat roof with modern torch-on felt. Everything is filmed on real jobs (with the homeowner’s permission) and the lads doing the work explain it in plain Glasgow words – no fancy music or fake smiling, just proper tradesmen showing proper work. The most watched video is “Replacing chimney flashing in the rain – full job start to finish” and it’s had over 40,000 views. People comment things like “wish every trade was this open about what they do”. We add a new video every week or two, and we always answer questions in the comments.
The best thing about all our social pages is that they’re run by the same people who fix your roof. It’s usually big Tam who posts the Instagram Stories from the scaffold, wee Jamie who edits the YouTube videos in the evening, and Donna in the office who makes sure every message gets a reply. We don’t pay anyone fancy to run the accounts – it’s just us showing what we do every day. That means when you message us on any platform you get a real answer fast, and often from the very person who’ll be on your roof the next day.
We also use the pages to help the community. When storms hit we post which areas have the worst damage and how people can make things safe until we arrive. We share reminders about clearing leaves from gutters before winter, and we sometimes collect old tools or unused tiles for local men’s sheds and community projects. Every Christmas we choose one family or charity that’s struggling and fix their roof for free, and we let our followers vote who it should be.
If you’re not already following us, just search Glasgow Roofmasters on any of the platforms – you’ll spot us by the dark blue vans and the orange logo. Like or follow whichever ones you use most, turn on notifications if you want to see when we’re in your area, and say hello. We love hearing from customers old and new, and we’re always happy to answer questions, give advice, or just have a bit of banter about the Glasgow weather. Thousands of local people already keep up with us online, and we’d love you to join them. After all, when your roof is happy, we’re happy – and our social pages are just another way we look after Glasgow, one post at a time.
